While Wendy is one of my favorite spotters to take to the range to shoot paper, she will not replace Kirk as my hunting companion. In the field, I am afraid Wendy would talk me on to a tree, rock or something else instead of the animal. Read on to learn about Wendy and my first shots at the Blackwood Gun Club.
The Target
Details for the five shots we took are below. Tossing out Shot 2, we improved with each shot. Before Shot 2, I had Wendy dial back the magnification because I suggested she was trying to be too precise and using less magnification would help her perform the spotting job better. Lesson learned, let the spotter spot and the shooter “shut up” and shoot.
- Shot 1: Low and right between 5-and-6 o’clock just over 2 inches.
- Shot 2: High and right at 2 o’clock just under 3.5 inches.
- Shot 3: Right at 3 o’clock just under 2 inches.
- Shot 4: Left at 9 o’clock just under 1 inch.
- Shot 5: Left at 9 o’clock just under 1 inch.

The Scope Point Of View Video
All five shots showing the point of view from the AGM Spectrum LRF 4K scope were combined into one video. Each shot was edited to include only a few seconds before and after each shot.
The Smart Glasses Video
The video for Shot 4 and Shot 5 does not show much as it is from the point of view of the Oakley Meta Vanguard Smart Glasses I was wearing. It is included for the audio. Listen closely and you can hear the difference between my suppressed shots and other shots on the range. In fact, you will hear that Wendy has to stop and reset us before taking Shot 5 due to another range visitor’s distracting rapid fire.
The Gear
The picture shows, and the following list contains, the gear used at the range.
- The rifle is a Ruger American Generation II chambered in 6.5 PRC purchased from Scheels and includes a Salmon River Solutions Arca Rail and a Hornady sling.
- The suppressor is a Resilient simple man.
- The scope is an AGM Spectrum LRF 4K that can be connected to an Apple iPad using the AGM Connect app.
- John Ray with Sharp Gun Works handled the suppressor purchase, transferred the rifle, mounted the scope and installed the rail.
- The ammunition shot is Hornady Precision Hunter 143 grain.
- The ballhead mount is a Barker Outdoors BOG adapter that is mounted on a wooden base.
Dead Eyes Getting Better Mission
As mentioned in the Heroes Ranch Thank You post, Kirk and I were humbled and returned from that hunt with a mission to get better. We both thank Wendy for helping Mike improve his shots. Check out the Heroes Ranch category for additional posts featuring the getting better theme.
