Better Shooting Practice

Details regarding the people who provided valuable advice and the extensive gear upgrades were covered in the Better People, Process and Technology post. This post describes a Better Process for shooting practice. Plans are to use a yearly membership at Blackwood Gun Club to zero in the new gear and improve my shooting skills.

The Base

The tripod upgrade steps are described in the Better Gear – Barker Outdoors BOG Adapter post. A second adapter ballhead kit was purchased and mounted on a wooden base that will be used at the range to simulate shooting from the tripod.

The image shows a wooden box like structure with a Barker Outdoors BOG Ballhead Adapter Attached to the top.

Shooting At The Range

While zeroing the rifle, Kirk and I made two trips to the range and shot our first box of Hornady Precision Hunter 143 grain cartridges. The video below shows Kirk talking me on to the one bullseye we hit. We both agree that the rifle is zeroed in enough for a hog hunt but need more work before deer season.

Snap Fire Shooting From The Tripod

After returning from the range, I wanted to demonstrate to Wendy how the new setup allows for full range of motion, smoother movements and better on target lock down capabilities. I set up the tripod in the family room, so she could talk me on to a fence post. We were surprised that snap firing the rifle activated the Shot Activate Recording on the AGM Global Vision Spectrum LRF 4K scope. Next, a target will be hung from the fence to allow for simulating range target shooting.

You can read the hunting page to learn about my limited success as an early childhood low vision hunter or check out all the hunting post to learn how I now hunt totally blind. Hopefully, shooting the second box of ammunition will result in several successful hunting post.
