No Gun Still Fun

No Bloody Photo

Typically, a picture at the ranch is included with a post. Since I was gun less this trip, there is no photo of me kneeling down behind an animal. Kirk’s son, Kolton, did get a shot at a pig, but we could not find it to take a picture. Another choice for a photo was Kirk’s bloody trigger finger. A sudden ball slip while hooking up the trailer resulted in an unfortunate pinch.  Fortunately, the pinch was not too serious. Kirk could still pull a trigger. More importantly he will be able to work the iPad that allows for remote viewing of my scope, when I have a fully equipped gun, to talk me onto a shot. Hopefully, the only blood featured in a photo will be from a dead pig next time we head to the ranch.

Ranch Chores

Below is a quick recap on work performed. This way, I will have notes when Kirk and I try to recall details about the last time we went to the ranch and what chores were completed. It was fun to have Kolton join us again. You can read the Blind Buck Fever post for another good time Kirk and I had with our sons on the ranch. I want to publicly thank Kolton for the help. We got a lot done on this trip.

  • All the feeders were filled with corn.
  • Feeder time adjusted to summer schedule.
  • The protein feeder was completely filled.
  • Put out two mineral blocks.
  • Water repair before first trough. Hose had separated at a splice due to a freeze.

Equipment Enhancements Coming Soon

John Ray owner of Sharp Gun Works is working on equipment enhancements and new gear for me. We are both proudly wearing a Heroes Ranch hat in the photo below. The picture was taken when I dropped off my Winchester XPR at John Ray’s shop.

John Ray had an opportunity to hunt at Heroes Ranch this year. He harvested a gigantic trophy whitetail. You can read more about John Ray’s hunt on Facebook.

The image shows John Ray and Mike outdoors in front of Sharp Gun Works. We are both wearing Heroes Ranch hats. Mike is standing holding an empty gun case. John Ray is seated in a wheelchair.

Heroes Ranch is a recreational retreat providing “outdoor accessible” family adventures and fellowship for injured, ailing, wounded or disabled Heroes.
