You know what really stinks…wild hogs. They eat all the feed leaving none for the deer or even worse the pigs chew up the PVC pipe allowing all the water in the cistern to run out on the ground. Therefore, Kirk always gives me the opportunity to try and rid the Musgrove Family Ranch of one of these varmints each time hogs come into the stand.
Video Description
Believe it or not, I finally remembered to hit the record button on my scope. Unfortunately, I neglected to turn on sound recording, so the embedded video takes you back to 36 seconds of the silent movie days. The entire video shows the shot from the point of view (POV) from the Pulsar Digex C50 optic.
The video starts with three little piggies shown in the scope. All of the pigs are gorging themselves. Each pig is trying to get more than its share of the corn pile.
During prior hog hunts, a trick Kirk learned is to dump three or so piles of corn out in front of the stand. Because the feeders spread the corn out in a wide area, it has been difficult to single out a single hog for a shot. There were so many pigs scrounging around for corn they were constantly moving and pushing each other around. It was like watching an ant pile.
As Kirk whispers directional commands, you see the scope’s cross hairs moving around on one of the pig’s bodies. Trust me, Kirk is telling me how to move the gun.
The pig we are scoping turns broadside and we are on target. Kirk gives the fire command.
The gun recoil causes everything to go out of view.
The scope returns to the pre-firing position showing one pig lying dead on the ground while a second pig is spotted running off. I guess the third pig bolted before the scope was back on target.
Kirk and I exchange a high five making much noise in the stand, while Kirk says, “we smoked it”.
Daily Double
After the hunt, Kirk and his son Kody watched the video. Recall, in my first blind Hunting post, Kody suggested Kirk and I might need to learn a lesson from Gunner, Kody’s three year old son and Kirk’s oldest grandson, about how to be more quiet in the deer stand. Kirk and I returned home from that hunt in November 2023 with a goal of shooting a pig sometime after deer season. Twenty-one months later we fulfilled that goal.
Scrutinizing the video more, Kirk and Kody think we might have even hit the second pig behind the one we smoked that was shown running off. I know we definitely shot the one and will be proud of that for now. If we ever do get a double pig kill with one shot, it will be due to much luck. Good luck for us and bad luck for the second pig.
