Champion Parents

Picture of Mike and Wendy singing karaoke at Taylor's 21st birthday celebration.

Okay, Wendy’s last musical performance was just a few years ago, back in high school. Further, Mike never claimed to be able to sing like Stevie Wander or Ray Charles. However, last Saturday night to celebrate Taylor’s 21st birthday, the Taylor and Eric’s Champion Parents dynamic duet made their career launching debut on the karaoke stage. Fortunately, only the above photo survived and there was not any video or audio captured during the performance.

The duet belted out a remix of Queen’s, We are the Champions, with a slight change made to the lyrics. The revised lyrics were “We are your champions, Taylor.” We plan to continue to rehearse for the next three years to be ready for Eric’s 21st birthday. Maybe by then video or audio can be posted.  Who knows, someday we might be performing at a venue near you.

The idea for the slight lyric change came to Mike when listening to Rita Pierson: Every kid needs a champion Ted Talk.

For all and especially NICU parents, we encourage you to continue to be the Champion Parents for your children.

In her talk, even after 40 years in the classroom, Pierson confesses to struggle with the teaching of ratios, so next week’s post will contain much math to derive suggested donation amounts. This week, we encourage you to dig down deep into your pockets and make a large donation; otherwise, the Taylor and Eric Champion Parents duet might show up at your door and bust out with a Christmas carol and keep singing until a donation is made or your neighbors complain.
